The Junior Log Show returns to Buckley's Log Show Grounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16.
The free event, hosted by the Buckley Log Show Association, is for children 3 to 17. The events for the little ones begin with the wooden ax toss for distance. The ax they'll be using is a foot long, made of wood and has no sharp edges. Additionally, the choker set will be available to all ages and the wee ones will end their portion of the show with the quarter scramble.
For older kids there is the log rolling competition, the rope climb and the double bucking crosscut saw event starting at 11 years old; the horizontal log chop starts at age 12 and the throwing of a real ax at a target is for those 8 and older.
Meanwhile for the kids 14 to 17 the highlight will be the tree climbing event. All kids competing in the events will be given a free ice cream bar donated by Schwan's Frozen Foods and trophies will be handed out at 4 p.m.
The Junior Show precedes the better known annual Buckley Log Show, which will take place the following weekend, June 22 and 23. Admission is free and there will be a beer garden and a cook shack manned by the Buckley Fire Department for those wishing to dine on hot dogs and hamburgers.
Log Show attire is available at Frontier and Mt. Rainier Banks in Buckley as well as D'Jon's Family Restaurant.
