The public is welcome to join a Saturday work party as a rain garden is created at the Buckley Youth Activity Center, 251 S. River Ave.
The hands-on workshop is intended to teach volunteers how to create their own rain garden, a landscape feature that helps control drainage while also protecting waterways. A rain garden consists of a depression in the ground, filled with native plants, where water is collected and filtered before it enters the underground supply.
The workshop is slated for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, but projects often finish in one day.
Volunteers are encouraged to provide their favorite hand tools, gloves and boots. Refreshments will be served.
Anyone interested in participating can contact the Pierce Stream Team at 253-845-2973 or streamteam@piercecountycd.org.
