Join King County Parks on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 1, at any of several locations to learn more about the County’s 180 miles of backcountry trails spread across more than 16,000 acres of park lands.
“As we celebrate King County Parks’ 75th anniversary this year, we encourage King County residents to get outside, explore some of the best close-by nature trails, or even participate in a volunteer work party to help take care of these cherished places for future generations,” said Kevin Brown, King County Parks Director.
King County Parks offers such regional jewels as Marymoor Park and the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, but most of its parks are natural lands where you can experience lush Douglas fir forests, green meadows and sweeping vistas of the Cascades and Mount Rainier.
In addition to diverse nature-based recreation opportunities – from hiking and horseback riding to paragliding and white river kayaking – these lands protect water quality and habitat for fish and wildlife, and contribute to our quality of life, helping make King County a vibrant and prosperous place to live, work and play.
In celebration of American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day on June 1, King County Parks’ Parks and Trails Ambassador volunteers will host nine information stations from 9-11 a.m., where King County residents can learn about various trails networks, recreation and volunteer opportunities, and native wildlife and habitat.

- Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park*, Sky Country Trailhead, 166th Way SE off East Cougar Mountain Way, Newcastle
- Marymoor Park*, Birdloop Trail, Parking Lot G (guided bird walk at 10 a.m.), 6046 W. Lake Sammamish Parkway NE, Redmond
- Moss Lake Natural Area, 10902 NE Moss Lake Rd., Carnation
- Soaring Eagle Park, 26015 E. Main Dr., Sammamish
- Tanner Landing Park, approximate booth location at 44120 SE North Bend Way, North Bend
South King County

American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day is a nationally-recognized trail awareness program that occurs annually on the first Saturday of June, and inspires the public to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails while participating in outdoor activities, clinics, and trail stewardship projects.
