The new Foothills Trail bridge over the White River will be opened this Saturday, Sept. 28.
Work on the 572-foot-long, weathered steel pedestrian bridge started on Jan. 18, 2023.
The project, which cost around $13.5 million, will help connect Enumclaw to Buckley, although the Enumclaw trail to the bridge will be completed later this fall.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.; headlining the event is King County Deputy Executive Shannon Braddock and the Pierce County-based Rails to Trails nonprofit, which has been instrumental in developing the cross-county trail.
The event will be held on the Buckley side of the river, just north of 599 N River Ave at the south end of the bridge. Parking is available at the Buckley Log Show Grounds, Buckley Armory, the White River School District building, and the Buckley Youth Center.
There will be live music, free food, and family-fun activities.
