The Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce is revamping its annual spring 5K, and according to Events Director Kerry Solmonsen, it’s going to be a party.
The new event, called the Rainier Run and Rally, is being held on April 15 in front of the new Rainier Foot and Ankle building at 1145 Cole Street.
For those looking to run, the route is now through downtown, as opposed to being at the Enumclaw Expo Center.
The race begins at Rainier Foot and Ankle and follows Rainier Street until it hits Battersby. Runners then head down to the dog park and turn around to complete the route.
Joining the runners will be the ladies, gentlemen, and knights of the Washington State Renaissance Faire, who will cheer (and sometimes jeer) athletes as they pass.
The fastest three runners in both a 15 years old and under group and 16 and older group, mens and ladies, will receive prizes.
The new event is already attracting a lot of attention, as more than 150 runners have already pre-registered for the race, which is a record for the Chamber.
Runners that still have yet to register can do so online at enumclawchamber.com/rainier-run-rally-5k or the morning of the event.
And for those just looking to support the runners and have a good time, Solmonsen said that MOViN 92.5 will be sending out their street team.
“They’re going to have a D.J., they’re going to have radio personalities, they’re going to be going give-aways, [and] playing fun music,” she added.
There will also be food trucks and refreshments like Cascadia Pizza and the Corndoggery (“they do every kind of corn dog you can imagine,” Solmonsen said), Sugar and Spoon, and, of course, a beer garden, plus various other vendors selling their wares.
Kids can get involved too — right before the race is the ever-popular Kiddie Dash, face painting, and other activities provided by the Mount Rainier Football Club.
