Child in critical condition airlifted from car near Wilkeson; adult in car found dead

East Pierce Fire and Rescue this morning responded to a 911 call involving a missing man and child, believed to be father and son, and found the adult dead and the child in critical condition.

The pair were found in a car near the Evans Creek Off Road Vehicle Park near Wilkeson, according to reports from East Pierce. The child was airlifted to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma.

The fire department dispatched sport utility vehicles, a medic unit and two engines to the scene. The child was being treated at the scene as the fired department waited for weather conditions to allow the transport.

There are questions surrounding the incident, but officials said it was not related to the wind storm.
