Circus coming to Buckley

There will be two shows only, both on May 30.

The circus is coming to Buckley this month, and there will be two opportunities to see roaring tigers and high-flying performers under the big top.

The Culpepper and Merriweather Circus, in operation since 1985, features standbys like tight-rope walkers, daredevils, clowns, and exotic animals, including tigers, cockatoos and a lion. They’ll be putting on two shows May 30, at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., located near the Highway 410 and SR 165 intersection next to Blue Max Meats.

It’ll be the first time in years that Buckly has hosted a circus, said Buckley Chamber of Commerce President Ali Santman. (The chamber is sponsoring the event.) The circus travels nationally and only visits any given city every other year, Santman said.

It’ll be a family-friendly, nostalgic way to kickoff Buckley’s summer event season, Santman said.

Some local businesses and organizations, including Main Street Bistro, Blue Max Meats, the Blue Rooster and the Odd Fellows lodge are selling tickets ahead of the show. You can also get tickets by visiting cm-circus.square.site. Tickets on the day will run $15 for adults and $8 for kids and seniors (children younger than 2 get in for free), but they are cheaper if bought ahead of time.

For those particularly curious, the circus offers a free tour of the grounds to the public while they set up, starting at 9:30 a.m., according to their website.
