City and county officials sat down March 13 and considered the future look of the south Plateau community.

Bonney Lake Mayor Neil Johnson, City Administrator Don Morrison, County Councilman Shawn Bunney and County Executive John Ladenburg gathered to discuss urban growth areas and annexation of the south Plateau, which is in the midst of an explosive building boom.

Johnson and Morrison proposed a jointly funded study between the city and county that will look at the feasibility of the Bonney Lake annexing the area.

The city is asking the county to pay about one-third of the cost.

&#8220I think the Bonney Lake proposal makes a lot of sense,” Bunney said. &#8220We need to look at the Plateau as a single community. There is a lot of room to agree and disagree, but the (city's) leadership is greatly appreciated.”

The south Plateau region includes Falling Water, Plateau 465, Cascadia and the county urban growth area that includes part of Prairie Ridge, Rhododendron Park and unincorporated areas.

&#8220The study should tell us what would make sense,” Johnson said. &#8220The more information we have sooner is better.”

City Council members have begun considering annexation of the area to give the city some control of the development according to Morrison.

The developments already in the works count up to nearly 12,000 homes and more than 20,000 people moving into the area over the next 10 to 15 years.

According to city officials about 20 percent of the area is currently developed.
