The city of Enumclaw took two steps forward and one step back last week when it comes to the roster of municipal employees.

On the plus side, candidates for two key vacancies were offered positions with the city and accepted. Erica Shook will join the list of city department heads when she takes over as director of the Department of Community Development. In the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, Kristen Damazio will join city staff as the Expo Center’s marketing and events coordinator.

On the down side, Finance Director Dianne Nelson tendered her resignation, leaving the city to once again fill that position. The director’s post has been something of a revolving door during the past decade.

Nelson, unlike others, is leaving on her own terms. A resident of Monroe in Snohomish County, she took the Enumclaw post with plans to move. She spent time living in Enumclaw during the week and commuting home on weekends but, due to a health issue in her immediate family, has been making the long commute every day.

Mayor Liz Reynolds said Nelson will work in Enumclaw through the end of the month. Her position will be filled in-house while the city searches for a full-time replacement.

Shook, who currently resides in Kirkland, will take over a department responsible for planning, permitting, zoning and code enforcement.

Damazio started working in Enumclaw Monday and came with more than 15 years of management experience in marketing and event planning for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
