The Classy Chassis Car Show revs up Sunday, Aug. 22 in Sumner featuring a vast lot of cars and trucks.
Judges determine the best cars and trucks in 26 categories including the best from a cetain year and best in show.
A people’s choice award is given to the owner of the car selected by the crowd and Mayor Dave Enslow will choose who wins the mayor’s award.
Car show volunteer Ted Hackmann said he expects a good turnout and many vehicles in competition.
“We’ve got just right around 50 so far and we expect about 275,” he said on Aug. 10.
Hackman said parking for show vehicles is on a first-come-first-served basis and people may start arriving as early as 6 a.m., which is when registration begins. Some organizers plan to be at the site by 5:30 a.m.
Entertainment includes Elvis impersonator Danny Vernon performing on the gazebo stage from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
KGY 96.9 The SOUND radio station has a booth from which music is broadcast on from Main Street and the radio personalities will announce the winners of raffle prizes. Raffle tickets are available at the SDA booth near the gazebo.
Hackman said local businesses donated items for the raffle, including Berryland Cafe, which is giving away pieces of rhubarb pie.
New this year are custom-made car show T-shirts.
“We just got them in and they look great,” Hackmann said.
The event is from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Main Street.
