Donor keeps giving
Larry Heister is preparing got a moment to be remembered. The Sumner resident is preparing to donate his 200th pint of blood later in the month.
“I started donating blood when I turned 18,” Heister said.
With eight pints to a gallon, Heister is just one pint shy of his 200th donated pint.
And while he’s had to stretch his donations out to 56-day waiting periods between each appointment, he’s discovered a timely nickname..
“Right now, I’m 24/7,” he said, referring to the 24 gallons of blood and seven pints he’s given.
Young receives Spirit Award
The Sumner Senior Center awarded the Spirit Award May 6 to Yvette Young of Bonney Lake.
A retired Sumner School District food services employee, Young has volunteered with the center for 25 years and provides kitchen support each weekday.
“Yvette is a very devoted, hard working, loyal volunteer,” said Senior Services Program Coordinator Linda Clerget. “The Sumner Senior Center could not function without our volunteers.”
