• Lake Tapps Elementary will host PlayJude Drama, a Friday afternoon drama program for students six to 11 years, from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. Jan. 9 through Feb. 13. The final performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13. Judy Kurtz will direct the musical, “Three of a Kind” – which adds up to bears, pigs, blind mice, billy goats gruff, musketeers and men in a tub. The story involves the hilarious search for Baby Bear while each of the cast members listen carefully to come to his rescue. PlayJude Drama will also present “How Does Your Garden Grow?” beginning Feb. 27 through April 3. The cost to enroll is $60. For information, call 253-569-1112.

Bonney Lake/Sumner Parks and

Recreation

The Sumner and Bonney Lake Recreation Department is located at 15206 Daffodil St. Ct. E. in Sumner and can be reached at 253-891-6500. Courses may be canceled due to lack of participation.

• Homeschool PE provides an opportunity to get together and play with students from other homeschool families. The cooperative play group teaches basic skills in a variety of sports and takes place on Fridays. Koalas, ages 5 through 7, meet from 10 to 11 a.m. and Pandas, ages 8 through 13, meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Robert Miller Gym at Daffodil Elementary. The cost is $36.

• PeeWee Basketball is a fun co-ed program for children ages 3 through 6. The two divisions are for ages 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 years. Scores are not kept and the emphasis is on having fun. Practices take place on Feb. 7 and 14, and six games will be played on Saturdays, beginning Feb. 21 through April 11. The cost is $40 for residents and $45 for nonresidents. Registration deadline is Jan. 16.

Fire and Rescue

The station headquarters are located in the Public Safety Building, 18421 Sumner-Buckley Hwy. in Bonney Lake. Its phone is 253-863-1800.

• A free cardio-pulmonary resuscitation class will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon and Feb. 14; a free first-aid class will be taught from 1 to 5 p.m. the same day at the Public Safety Building in Bonney Lake. For residents who live outside the jurisdiction of EPFR, the cost is $30 for both classes or $20 for one class. Call the station to register.

• Appointments are available for bicycle helmet fittings. The staff also sells bicycle helmets for $6.

• Call the station to arrange an appointment for: free station tours, car seat inspections; smoke alarm installations and fire extinguisher training.

• Free blood pressure checks are available at the station during regular business hours.

Events

• A Father/Daughter Valentine Dance will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 7 in the commons at Bonney Lake High. If registering on or before Jan. 15 the cost is $35 per couple and $40 after Jan. 16. Add $5 for each additional daughter. The event is sponsored by the Sumner/Bonney Lake Recreation Department. Food Banks are closed on major holidays, unless otherwise noted.

• The Bonney Lake Food Bank is open from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday and from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. It is located at 18409 Sumner Buckley Hwy. Call 253-863-4043.

• The Bread of Life Food Bank is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Friday at the Prairie Ridge Community Center, 14104 Prairie Ridge Dr. E. Call 360-897-9005. It is closed on major holidays.

• The Buckley Food Bank is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. It is located at Buckley Hall, 127 N. River Ave.

• The St. Andrews Emmanuel Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Fridays and 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the north side of St. Andrews Catholic Church, 1401 Valley Ave. E. in Sumner. Call 253-863-3655, ext. 2.

• The Sumner Community Food Bank is located at 15625 Main St. E. and is open from 1 to 3 p.m. daily, excluding Thursday. Call 253-863-3793 from 9 a.m. to noon to schedule an appointment. Its primary focus is to serve residents within the 98390 zip code, although no one will leave without food.

• Scott and Kristy Thorenstein are seeking participants for “Team Climbing for Caleb” for the 2009 Big Climb. The event takes place at 11 a.m. March 22 in Seattle’s Columbia Tower and benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). • A free computer class from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Mondays at the Bonney Lake Senior Center. Registration is not required and the class is available for any adult who would like to learn basic Internet and e-mail skills. At the Buckley branch, La Donna Olmstead will offer tastes of different types of black tea and teach the difference between the countries that produce them during Tea Time, 2 p.m. Jan. 24.

Tweens ‘n Teens
