WEDNESDAY October 6

ANNEXATION MEETING: A public information meeting regarding the Nov. 2 annexation vote for the city of Enumclaw and Fire District No. 28 is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the Enumclaw Fire Station. A second meeting is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at Cumberland Fire Station.

STROKE SEMINAR: An informational seminar on stroke, abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral arterial disease will take place at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at the Enumclaw Senior Activity Center. The session aims to help people who are at risk of developing stroke, AAA and PAD understand the condition, its causes, how it can be prevented and how it is diagnosed.

ENUMCLAW TV: Enumclaw City Television has posted its daily schedule from today, Wednesday, through Sunday: 8 a.m., Enumclaw City Council regular meeting of Sept. 27; 11 a.m. Air Force Today, 2 p.m. American Democracy TV; 5 p.m. Enumclaw library preschool storytime; 7 p.m. Aging Well; 9 p.m. Project Impact; 11 p.m. Your Hit Parade.

ENSEMBLE TRYOUT: The Allegro Women’s Ensemble will host auditions today, Wednesday, in the evening. Plan for 15-20 minutes. Please contact Kathee Lundberg at 360-825-0759 to set up a time. Participants must sing in a first or second soprano range. Auditioners will be provided with a piece of music to prepare to sing with the group and sight read a piece. There will be a personal interview. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings. The Allegro Women’s Ensemble is a group of women interested in learning and bringing music to the community.

PLAY TIME: Stage Door Productions announces tickets are available for its double feature event: “Black Comedy and The Real Inspector Hound.” Two short comedies on one bill, both in one night. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Oct. 15 and 16 and 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 16. Advance tickets are $8. Tickets at the door are $10. Gallery 2010: The city of Enumclaw Gallery 2010 presents photographer Lauri Hillberg’s Birds of Enumclaw. The exhibit begins Thursday and continues through Nov. 2 at Enumclaw City Hall. Hours for the exhibition space are 8 a. m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Enumclaw City Hall is closed on national holidays. The gallery is closed to the public Tuesdays for municipal court. CHORALE REHEARSALS: Cascade Foothills Chorale begins rehearsals for its fall 2010 concert season from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Thursday in the choir room at Enumclaw High School.

FRIDAY October 8

DINNER MEETING: The Sons of Italy will meet for dinner and its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Black Diamond Community Center.

TEEN NIGHT: The Buckley Youth Activitity Center will host a teen late night for youth ages 13 to 18 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday.

SATURDAY October 9

AUTHOR SPEAKS: Peg Kehret, award-winning author of more than 50 books for young people, will speak at the Buckley library, 123 S. River Rd. at 1 p.m. Saturday. She will discuss how she writes, and take questions from the audience. Her latet book, “Ghost Dog Secrets,” is a fall selection of the Junior Library Guild. Kehret will sign books after her talk, and books will be available for purchase on site. The free family event is sponsored by the Friends of the Buckley Library. For information, call 360-829-0300.

OKTOBERFEST FUN: Friends of the Danish Hall will host an Oktoberfest fundraiser Saturday at the Danish Hall, 1708 Porter St. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6. Dinner and spirits are $35. Proceeds go toward preserving the 100-year-old Enumclaw Danish Hall. A live accordian polka band will entertain during a bratwurst dinner.

HANDS-ON SCIENCE: Buckley Youth Center’s hands-on science starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and continues each Saturday through Oct. 16. The class is designed for children ages 4 to 10. The cost is $8 per class, or $24 per session.

MONDAY October 11

SCOTTISH DANCE: The Plateau Scottish Country Dancers meet from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Monday at the Danish Hall on Porter Street in Enumclaw. Learn the social dances of Scotland. COMING UP

STORY TIME: Registration is under way for the Enumclaw Public Library’s winter story time sessions, Tuesday, through Nov.4. Toddler Time will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays.

This is for children ages 2 to 3 ½ accompanied by an adult. Toddler Times has started and runs for eight weeks. Preschool story time will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. to 11 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays. This is for children ages 3 ½ and up. pre-school story time begins Thursday and runs for eight weeks. BIG BREAKFAST: The Enumclaw Senior Activity Center will host its Big Bountiful Breakfast at 9 a.m. Oct. 12. The cost is $3. Sign up at the front desk and make payment on the day of breakfast.

Mary Kay Facials: Come down to the Enumclaw Senior Activity Center at 1 p.m. Oct. 12 for some fun fall pampering. Receive a complimentary Mary Kay facial and be given both a Satin Hand treatment and soothing Satin Lip care. Enjoy autumn tea and treats. There is no fee.

FOOD CARD CLASS: A food worker card class for food workers, day-care providers and others interested in food safety is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Buckley Multi-Purpose Center, 811 Main St. To register, call 360-829-0190. DAIRY WOMEN: The King-Pierce Counties Dairy Women will host a meeting at noon Oct. 13 at The Kettle restaurant in Enumclaw. Anyone interested in helping promote dairy and dairy products is invited to attend. There will also be discussion regarding upcoming events for the fall quarterly meeting and the annual dairy industry meeting to take place in November in Everett. For information, call 360-825-1042.

FUNDRAISING BENEFIT: A benefit is planned for 5-year-old Buckley resident Regan Englehardt, who has Dravet syndrome, also known as severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy, a rare and catastropic form of epilepsy for which there is no cure. She needs both specialized equipment for her bed and a seizure-alert dog to help her parents respond more quickly to her seizures. A buffet dinner is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Buckley Eagles. The cost is $10 per person or $25 for a family, up to four people. A silent and live acution will follow at 8 p.m. A special performance by Aces Up is also scheduled. Ten percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Dravet Syndrome Foundation to benefit research and a cure. GALLERY 2010: The city of Enumclaw presents artist Lisa Parsons at Gallery 2010 at Enumclaw City Hall. The exhibit continues through Oct. 5. CHOICE PROGRAM: The Choice Program is accepting applications for third through 12th grade through the summer. Applications can be picked up at the White River District Office, 240 N. A St., Buckley at the Human Resources office.

GET ON TRACK: Get on Track runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Black Diamond Community Center, 31605 Third Ave. The group’s focus is to educate youth ages 13 to 17 who are in danger of entering the Juvenile Justice System or who have court-ordered hours. Each session qualifies for 1.5 hours of community service time. Youth and parent are required to attend a two-hour intake prior to attendance. CHILD FIND: The White River School District provides Child Find screenings, at no cost to families, throughout the school year. This is an opportunity to have preschool-age children checked by professionals from Student Support Services in the areas of vision, hearing, speech/language, learning and motor skills. The purpose of the screening is to identify issues that could affect a child’s future success in school. Results of the screening are discussed with parents and further testing is recommended if necessary. To participate, call 360-829-3959.
