TUMWATER – The job of construction worker remains one of the toughest, and getting the right safety training and equipment can make all the difference.
The Seventh Annual Construction Safety Day, April 23, offers construction employers, supervisors and workers the opportunity to get just the right safety training.
This year’s event will be from 7 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center ShowPlex, 110 9th Avenue, SW, Puyallup.
Registration is $60 in advance or $70 at the door. There is a $10 per person discount for groups of five or more. You can register online. A catered luncheon is included in the registration fee.
Construction Safety Day is co-sponsored by the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board and the Department of Labor & Industries to promote safety in the construction industry.
The training includes sessions on fall hazards — historically one of the leading causes of construction-related deaths and severe injuries, in Washington state and nationally.
The event includes demonstrations on cranes, job-site equipment and tools, an exhibit hall and a health-and-wellness booth. In addition to fall protection, workshops for workers, owners and supervisors include:
– Working around electricity
– Drug and alcohol awareness
– Roadway safety
– Aerial lift safety
– Chemical hazard communication
– Silica hazards.
