STOLEN CREDIT CARDS: At 4:30 p.m. March 8, an officer contacted a man in the lobby of the Sumner Police Department who said he had just been to a local restaurant for lunch and had sat down to eat, removing a vest containing his wallet containing credit cards. The man said he left the vest in the restaurant and, when he returned a few minutes later, it was gone. The restaurant owner was told by a customer that an employee took the vest just after the victim left. The victim reported someone had made several attempts to use his credit cards. The employee initially denied knowing anything about the vest, but eventually admitted to taking it. She denied attempting to use the cards though she was the only one who had them. The officer was told the employee is no longer employed at the restaurant. Sumner Police Department is requesting charges of second-degree theft, attempted credit card fraud and possession of stolen property through the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office.

BREAK-IN: At approximately 7:22 p.m. March 6, a man reported that someone broke into his van. He also reported that his neighbor was out of town and believed no one had been given permission to stay at the house. Other neighbors reported that a group of “homeless” type people had been staying at the house and they believed somebody was still inside. Officers searched the home and located a subject. The interior of the house was in disarray and drug paraphernalia was visible in several places. Officers attempted to contact the homeowner to determine if anyone was allowed on the property but were unsuccessful. The subject was then released. The homeowner returned later that day and advised that only one person had permission to be at the house – not the subject that was found. The homeowner said he was not happy about the other people being there but did not consider it a criminal matter.
