Did you recently receive a letter from the Washington State Department of Revenue (Revenue) about unclaimed safe deposit box contents that could be yours? If so, the deadline to claim the items is tomorrow.
Revenue sent letters to around 700 people in late July letting them know the agency has been holding for several years safe deposit box contents in their name. The letters advise the recipients that the contents will be auctioned off this fall unless they file a claim by Aug. 28, 2014.
Revenue is working with the James G. Murphy Company on a two-day auction slated for November 19 and 20, 2014 in Kenmore, Washington.
If you received this letter from Revenue, go online to file your claim by Aug. 28, 2014.
Revenue administers the unclaimed property program on behalf of the state of Washington. Safe deposit box contents are turned over as unclaimed property each year. State law requires Revenue to auction off the contents within five years of receiving contents.
Once the items are auctioned, the proceeds from the sale are placed in an account for the rightful owner to claim should they or an heir come forward at a later date.
