Bonney Lake’s Fred Meyer store awarded a check for $1,859 to the Dieringer School District for its efforts to help student families in need.
Store Director Karen Jackson presented the check to Superintendent Judy Neumeier-Martinson prior to an end-of-the-year concert by Dieringer Heights Elementary School’s chorus and band.
“Last Friday (June 4) Karen Jackson had a gift to share,” Neumeier-Martinsons said. “The day before I was at the store picking up summer packs for collection. I was thinking how wonderful it was to have them available for our programs and Karen called to tell me they were awarding us a check for our work.”
The money came from the Fred Meyer Fund, which awards organizations that foster youth development and combat hunger. The money originates with coin box donations, voluntary payroll deductions from employee associates and deposits by parent company Kroger.
Dieringer’s school counselors identify students from families with a need and provide school supplies and food. The Fred Meyer award will go toward future purchases of those items.
