DNR hosts wildfire and disaster info fair in Wilkeson

Sign up for the Wildfire Ready Neighbors program to keep your home and neighborhood safe.

Western Washington weather will remain wet for the time being, but drier months are ahead, and the Department of Natural Resources is helping Pierce County locals prepare for wildfire season.

On Saturday, April 1, DNR is partnering with Pierce Conservation District, the Buckley Fire Department and other partners to host a Wildfire and Disaster Info Fair from 10 a.m. to noon at Wilkeson Elementary School (640 Railroad Avenue) to promote the Wildfire Ready Neighbors program. The Wilkeson event will include an opportunity to talk to DNR staff, community partners, and at least one resident who has implemented some of the suggestions from this program on her property.

From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the same groups will be at the Orting Fire Department raising awareness about the program and signing some people up. This is the main launch of the program in Pierce County.

The Wildfire Ready Neighbors program aims to help neighborhoods be even more wildfire resilient.

Signing up for the Wildfire Ready Neighbors gives you information on how to limit wildfire risks around your home and neighborhood and, for free, a DNR representative or partner group will visit to give your area a wildfire risk assessment.
