A black Pomeranian was stolen off the Mount Peak Trail earlier this month.
Daniel Ortiz Rebollar, who often hikes the Cal Magnusson trail, was hiking with his dog Vanny at around 7:30 a.m. on March 18.
As the pair were heading up, they passed a man going the opposite way; Rebollar described him in a Facebook post in the Bonney Lake Lost & Found Pets group as white and bald, with a black Columbia jacket, gray shorts, and white and gray HOKA shoes.
Unfortunately, Vanny, offleash, was behind Rebollar, so all he heard was his dog yelp before he turned and saw the man holding a bundle under his clothing and picking up speed.
Daniel followed but the man had too much of a head start and reached the parking lot first.
But before taking off, Rebollar said he made comments like, “you don’t deserve this dog.”
The King County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation.
Anyone with information about the missing dog or the man can contact the department at 206-343-2020.
