SHOPLIFT: Police on May 16 were dispatched to Walmart for a report of $824 in merchandise stolen May 13 by a single suspect. According to store security, several empty iPod packages were found at the store and security began to review footage from cameras in the area and recognized a suspect who had already been trespassed from the store. The suspect entered the store at about 2:15 a.m. and is seen concealing items in the jewelry section and then selected and put on a hat and sunglasses before going to the sporting goods section and again concealing items. At 2:38 he is seen trying to break a case where iPod merchandise is kept. He then conceals more merchandise on his person. Police identified the individual in the video from prior contacts and forwarded the information to Pierce County for possible charges.
HIT AND RUN: Police early on May 21 were called to the area of state Route 410 and South Prairie Road for a report of a two-car accident. Police spoke to a witness who said the suspect vehicle ran a red light, striking the victim in the intersection. The suspect vehicle pulled over briefly and then fled the scene. When police contacted the victim. He told a similar story and added that when the driver of the suspect vehicle came to the victim’s car, he smelled strongly of alcohol. At the scene, police found the bumper of the suspect vehicle, with the license plate still attached and went to the home to which it was registered. A vehicle matching the description, with extensive front end damage, was in the driveway, but there was no answer at the door. The next day, the suspect called police to report the collision but denied the hit and run because he contacted the other driver and then his insurance company in the morning. Police forwarded the case to the Pierce County Prosecutor for possible hit and run charges.
FRAUD: Police on May 23 were contacted by a man who was the victim of a fraud. According to the reporting party, the victim was contacted by someone claiming to save him money on a home refinance. The victim sent a check to the person after attempting to confirm the company’s name, but after the check was chased in California, the victim called the company and they had no record of it or of a person with the name given by the man on the phone. Police are investigating.
SHOPLIFTING: Officers were dispatched to Walmart May 24 for a report of two juvenile females in custody. According to store security, the two teens concealed make-up item in their purse and then attempted to leave the store without paying. The total value of the items was approximately $59. Police also confiscated a spring-blade knife and two packs of cigarettes. Both admitted to attempting to steal the make up. Both were released to their parents and the case was forwarded to Remann Hall for charges.
BURGLARY: Police on May 26 were dispatched to the 5300 block of Vista Drive East for a report of a burglary. When the victim returned from work she found the rear door to her residence open and her flat screen television and blu-ray player were missing. Police are investigating.
DRUGS: Police on patrol May 26 observed a vehicle in a parking lot and did a records records check. The driver returned with a warrant out of Kent. The officer followed the vehicle t=into the lot at which time the driver abruptly parked and got out. The officer activated his lights and told the driver to return to his vehicle. The warrant was conformed and the drover was found to have two marijuana pipes in the vehicle as well. He was cited and released for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and then transported to Kent.
FRAUD: Police on May 27 were contacted by a woman who reported that an unknown person had stolen her identity and activated a cable TV account in her name, running up a bill of more than $1,689. Police are investigating.
DRUGS: Police on routine patrol May 27 observed a man watching them intently as he drove through a parking lot and ran the license plate of his vehicle and discovered that Bonney Lake police previously pulled over the vehicle and a man matching the description of the driver had a suspended license. The officer used a booking photo to identify the driver. When police contacted the driver he admitted to driving illegally. When he stepped out of the vehicle, he dropped two items, a glass pipe and a baggie containing methamphetamine. He was transported to Pierce County jail and booked on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, driving with license suspended and a Bonney Lake warrant.
POT: Police on patrol May 28 saw a vehicle parked at the end of a cul de sac in an undeveloped development in the 17200 block of 109th Street Court East. As he approached, the officer saw three males in the vehicle and could see smoke hanging in the air. The driver said they were just hanging out, but the officer noticed the smell of burnt marijuana. Police also discovered a large glass water bong and a bag of marijuana. An adult passenger was cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and released at the scene. Two juveniles in the car were released to their parents and the case was forwarded to Remann hall for drug possession and paraphernalia charges.
VANDALISM: Police were called to the 6000 block of 184th Avenue East for a report of a shattered window in a vehicle that was parked in a driveway. A rock was found inside the vehicle. Police are investigating.
FORGERY: Police on May 31 were dispatched to the Rite Aid for a report of a prescription forgery. Police contacted the suspect, who said she did not know why police were there. She said she was getting an oxycodone prescription filled, but did not know her doctor’s name. When the doctor’s office was contacted, they said they did not write the woman a prescription. The woman gave police multiple stories. She was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked on forgery charges.
