EHS’ Zoey Ryan awarded “best in show” during district art competition

The junior was honored for her compilation titled, “Beauty has no measure”.

Enumclaw High’s Zoey Ryan was recently awarded “best in show” during the school’s annual National Art Honor Society showcase.

The junior, who is also the co-vice president of the school’s NAHS, was honored for her collection of work titled, “Beauty has no measure”, which showcased individuals with various skin conditions like vitiligo, albinism, ephelides, rosacea, and alopecia.

“I wanted to represent people who wouldn’t fit into the normal beauty standard, and I wanted to push out there that beauty has no measure, and these people are beautiful, and beauty shouldn’t be constrained to one specific thing,” Ryan said.

She added was surprised when she won “best in show” because she only placed third in the painting category last year, and the award normally goes to a senior artist.

“I’m so proud of the vision and skills Zoey has developed for this series of paintings. I don’t know if there’s any higher power that art has when it is combined with a thoughtful uplifting message, practice, dedication, and joy,” said Art and Design teacher Connie Aigner. “Her love of painting shines through!”

Ryan hasn’t decided which college she wants to get a bachelor’s degree in fine art yet, but knows she also wants to try and minor in art history.
