Enumclaw celebrates pool project completion

Want to have a pool party? There’s a new party room, as well as family changing rooms and more ADA accessibility.

The city of Enumclaw celebrated the completion of its pool upgrades last week.

On March 24, elected officials, county representatives, city business leaders and pool staff cut the ribbon to mark the end of a year-long project to make the pool more modern, accessible, and, of course, fun for the whole family.

Most of the construction was completed last November, but the city wanted to wait for a ribbon cutting until all the finishing details were complete.

“We didn’t want to do ribbon cutting when the sheet metal guys are there,” said city Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Director Alina Hibbs said.

If you haven’t experienced the “new” pool already, the new amenities include a new entry way, a party room, family changing rooms, and additional Americans with Disability Act upgrades.

The project cost roughly $2.1 million, but half of that funding came from King County.

The roof was also recently replaced during this time, though that was its own separate project.

For the most part, the completion of this project marks the end of major work on the pool — for now.

In the meantime, Hibbs is applying for grants to continue maintaining tor upgrading the facility.

“Some of the stuff behind the scenes is original,” she said.

MORE UPGRADES?

In the past, the Enumclaw City Council has mused about additional upgrades to the pool.

Whether that’s still the case is unclear, though it’s likely grant funds will have to be secured before any steps are taken in that direction.

That said, additional amenities that have been discussed includes constructing an outdoor patio and splash pad, and even more expensive amenities like a leisure pool and therapy pool.
