About 100 kids and approximately 120 animals from across the state are expected for Saturday’s annual Spring Dairy Show at the Enumclaw Expo Center.

A longstanding tradition – 72 years – for Enumclaw area 4-H and FFA students, the Spring Dairy Show is a prelude to the King County Fair and September’s state fair in Puyallup.

Saturday participants from clubs like the Plateau area’s Chinook 4-H will show their milking breeds for ribbons and prizes. Each showman will receive a sweatshirt and sack of grain.

“With the economy the way it is, people are still willing to donate to the show,” said Becky Birklid, who oversees the Chinook 4-H club and the Spring Dairy Show.

Visitors can expect to see the ever-popular, black and white Holstein as well as Guernsey, Jersey, brown Swiss, milking short horn, Ayrshire and some rarer breeds.

Gates open at 10 a.m. The event is free and lunch will be available on the grounds.
