Enumclaw pool to close for new roof

Other upgrades expected to be complete in September.

After nearly a year since Enumclaw received a grant to replace the local pool’s roof, construction is finally about to begin.

The city announced that the pool will be closed from Aug. 19 to Sept. 2 during last meeting on Aug. 12.

Work is slated to overlap the annual week-long closure period for its regular maintenance.

Half the funds for this project — which came out to about $850,000 — came from King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn.

“The Enumclaw Aquatic Center is a treasured resource not only in Enumclaw, but across the entire plateau,” Dunn said in a press release when the grant was announced. “I’m pleased that this critical roof replacement will preserve the longevity of the pool as a place for family fun, exercise, and friendly competition in our community.”

The other half of the money is coming from the city of Enumclaw’s coffers.

In addition to the pool roof, construction on numerous other upgrades could finish around the same time.

This includes a new entryway, party room, family changing rooms, plus Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades.

Construction on this project began last January, and came with a price tag of $2.1 million; half the funds were a grant from King County.

A grand “opening” (the pool hasn’t closed due to this project) is scheduled for late September.
