Enumclaw resident Huy Huu Nguyen pleaded not guilty to the killing of a Renton resident back in March.
Nguyen was charged on June 5 with first degree murder, first degree burglary, and first degree trafficking of stolen property after being arrested in connection with the death of Alex Enrique Chirinos-Banegas. Nguyen entered a plea of not guilty June 18 during his arraignment.
According to court documents, Nguyen, 56, and another unidentified individual allegedly broke into Chirinos-Banegas’ apartment on March 3. After a struggle, the two suspects bound Chirinos-Banegas’ wrists and hands together with duct tape, rendering him immobile, and covered most of his face with tape as well.
The victim, discovered on March 5, died from the combined effects of asphyxia from the prone positioning, smothering, and other blunt force injuries.
Law enforcement found the apartment thoroughly ransacked and numerous items were missing, according to Chirinos-Banegas’ cousin, who found the body.
Nguyen and the other suspect were seen on security cameras at the property, and police matched fingerprints found at the scene to Nguyen.
Additionally, pawn shop records show Nguyen selling some watches stolen from Chirinos-Banegas’ in Federal Way.
Nguyen was arrested June 3. A relative of Chirinos-Banegas said they did not recognize Nguyen.
The other suspect is still at-large.
Nguyen’s trial has been scheduled for Aug. 4.
