Organizers in Enumclaw are hoping to get neighborhoods and community groups on board for this year’s National Night Out scheduled for Aug. 2.
National Night Out provides an opportunity for neighbors to get out and meet each other and strengthen the communities in which they live.
The 28th annual National Night Out is a crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
Black Diamond and Buckley have been hosting Night Out events for a number of years. Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, more than 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.
Local organizer Trip Hart said the program is about neighbors caring for neighbors. He said the event is an chance to build police and community partnerships, build anti-crime programs, heighten crime and drug prevention and just a time to get to know the people who live nearby.
“It’s sad there has to be an official night to do this,” Hart said, but noted its an opportunity to join forces on many levels.
Hart made the announcement at the Linking Civility, Caring, Compassion and Kindness kickoff event June 27 at St. Elizabth Hospital. A meeting for those interested in participating took place Thursday at the library.
Organizers are encouraging neighborhoods and community organizations to host block parties, cookouts, parades, exhibits and youth programs.
