Several members from local fire and police departments assisted in Friday’s procession and memorial for Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton, who was shot and killed Oct. 31.
“We sent an engine with personnel as a show of support and respect,” East Pierce Fire Chief Jerry Thorson said.
Approximately 1,000 to 1,500 vehicles departed from the University of Washington and traveled to Key Arena, where the 1 p.m. service for the slain officers was conducted.
Deputy Chief Brad Moericke, who attended the ceremony, said one car from the Sumner Police Department was in the procession and an officer was part of the Metro Cities Honor Guard. No formal procession was conducted after the ceremony.
Bonney Lake didn’t have any vehicles in the procession, but four officers helped fill in for several Seattle officers so they could attend the service, Police Chief Mike Mitchell said.
Brenton, 39, was killed instantly in a drive-by shooting at 29th Avenue and East Yesler Way in the Leschi neighborhood of Seattle. A field training and student officer, Britt Sweeney, 33, was also injured in the incident.
Brenton, a 10-year police veteran, is survived by his wife and two children.
