Enumclaw voters agreed to a property tax increase when they went to the polls Feb. 8, a move that will add two career firefighters to the city department and expand a half-time dispatcher's position to full-time status.

The final (unofficial) results posted by the King County Elections Department showed 1,419 "yes" votes (74.88 percent) and 476 "no" votes.

The advisory ballot, which now has to be acted upon by the Enumclaw City Council, called for a tax increase of 9.3 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. That means $18.60 in additional taxes annually for the owner of property valued at $200,000. The tax increase will become effective Jan. 1, 2006.
