Sunny skies, high temperatures and the Fourth of July brought family gatherings, barbecues and a rash of fires.

King County Fire District No. 28 Fire Chief Randy Fehr wrote Monday in an email that over the Independence Day weekend district crews were, “dispatched to 13 fires. All of these were fireworks related; 12 of the 13 calls were brush/vegetation fires.”

The fire chief said there were no structural fires and the “largest vegetation fire was quarter-acre located on the Enumclaw/Franklin Road.”

There was one injury from fireworks on June 26. Fehr said, “The patient was transported to Harborview via Medic 12 with a significant hand injury.“

Fehr said this Fourth of July the call volume was greater than last year. In 2014 there were no brush, vegetation or structural fires.

Friday through Sunday, East Pierce Fire and Rescue received 129 calls, 32 due to fires.

Crews responded to 23 brush fires, three structural fires, one cooking and two vehicle fire. There were four calls for unauthorized fires.

East Pierce dispatch took 60 calls for emergency medical services; four were vehicle accidents and 56 were medical calls.

Buckley Fire Chief Alan Predmore said there were five fire calls from Friday through Sunday. There were 12 emergency medical calls and four mutual aid responses.
