A man in his late 20s was shot in the west Main Street area of Buckley this morning, Aug. 22.

This report is from Kevin Hanson at the scene of the shooting.

Update: 12:05 p.m.

Linn was taken to Tacoma General Hospital and is in surgery. He is expected to survive.

Update: 11:23 a.m.

The suspect has been identified by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department as Justin Linn.

The sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Linn had arrived in Buckley last night, on a stolen Suzuki motorcycle, and stayed the night at the West Main Motel. There were other individuals in the motel that deputies plan to interview.

Linn is alleged to have stated he was in Buckley to kill an adult child and the parents who were aware of his home invasion crimes.

Representatives of the sheriff’s department are now with the family.

The deputies are waiting for a search warrant to enter the motel room.

Linn was confronted by deputies outside the motel. The deputies had tracked Linn to the motel and were aware of the threats. The deputies told Linn he was not going to be allowed to leave. Linn ran about 100 yards and was shot in a grassy parking strip. He was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and taken to an area hospital.

There is no report of Linn firing on the deputies or if he was armed. Troyer said the deputies assessed the danger Linn presented at the scene and decided to shoot when he fled.

Linn is a suspect in a July 27 Spanaway home invasion where a victim was shot in the chest. In that case Linn is suspected of first-degree burglary, robbery and assault.

The invasion involved two women who entered the home first followed by two masked, armed men. The four forced their way into the victim’s bedroom.

During a struggle the sheriff’s department believe Linn shot the man in the chest.

He eluded police on two occasions, once on foot when deputies found a loaded firearm Linn had dropped.

According to the sheriff’s department Linn had made threats to “shoot it out with law enforcement and to seriously injure witnesses and civilians.”
