The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Pierce county through Sunday due to heavy rains expected over the weekend.
According to the warning, the Puyallup River near Orting is one of the rivers that “seem certain to flood.”
Heavy rains accompanied by snow levels around 8000 feet is predicted beginning Saturday and continuing through Sunday night. Storm totals of one to three inches of rain are possible in the lowlands with the potential of three to eight inches in the mountains.
Small streams could also overflow their banks and urban flooding is possible in areas with poor drainage.
A flood watch means conditions are favorable but flooding is not imminent or occurring. If conditions worsen, a flood warning will be issued.
Correction: Due to a typo, an earlier version of this story said snow levels were expected at 800 feet.
