The city of Enumclaw has been upgrading the heating, air conditioning and lighting systems in municipal buildings, using grant money to pay for the work.
In late 2009, the city’s Planning Department applied for and was awarded money to perform an energy audit on government buildings, specifically replacing the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in two buildings and retrofitting seven buildings with high efficiency lighting.
The new HVAC systems will replace units purchased in the mid-1980s and with the new lighting, the city estimates savings of $10,000 to $15,000 yearly in energy costs.
