Kids and parents throughout the area will again be able to enjoy a safe and fun Halloween, courtesy of various organizations who create a festive spirit.
• Enumclaw’s Cole Street will be closed in the downtown core, with the exception of Griffin Avenue, in keeping with tradition. Hours of the closure are 4 to 6 p.m. so kids in costume can scramble from business to business, where folks sit out frong and distrubute candy.
• Buckley’s Chamber of Commerce presents a downtown Halloween “trunk-or-treat” event from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday along Main Street. Aside from goodies being passed out from the trunks of vehicles, there will be a costume contest beginning at 6 p.m at the Thunderbird Park gazebo. Hot chocolate will be provided, also at the gazebo, and the first 100 kids will receive treat bags.
• The residents and staff at Enumclaw Health and Rehab will welcome trick-or-treaters from 6:30 to 8:30 Friday night. All ages are welcome at 2323 Jensen St. in Enumclaw.
• Calvary Presbyterian Church offers a trunk-or-treating from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. The church parking lot on Wells Street will be home to decorated car trunks, filled with treats to be handed out. One of the Christian education classrooms will be open for free popcorn and juice.
• In Buckley, Heritage House will host a trick-or-treat open house from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. The facility is at 28833 state Route 410.
• Also in Enumclaw, Hope Lutheran Church will present a free Halloween carnival for the community – and, as usual, promises nothing spooky or scary. The carnival runs from 5 to 7:30 Halloween night. The event is for preschoolers through elementary school-age children, along with their parents. There will be games, prizes, treats, snacks and candy. There will be a bouncy house for the smaller children and hot coffee for adults. The church is at 1316 Garfield St., across from Montgomery Park.
• For those who enjoy trick-or-treating but worry about dental health, the Molen Orthodontics offices will again offer a candy buy-back. Offices in Enumclaw, Sumner and Auburn will participate in the buy-back from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. the Monday following Halloween.
Kids can receive $2 per pound for their candy, with a 10-pound maximum. They can earn an extra dollar by wearing their Halloween costume and a second additional dollar by delivering at least two canned food items, which will be donated to local charities, military troops and food banks.
• “Trick-or-Treat Tales” will be offered from 10:30 to 11:15 Thursday morning at the Enumclaw public library. All ages are welcome to attend, with an adult. Children are invited to attend in costume for the special Halloween Story Time which will be followed by a trick-or-treat parade around the library. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Enumclaw Library.
