Monday, April 22

 

Metropolitan King County Council – 1:30 p.m.

 

–Councilmembers will recognize Major Jim Graddon as he retires from the King County Sheriff’s Office.

–Councilmembers will recognize Bismark Mensah for his honesty in returning $20,000 in cash left by a shopper at his place of employment.

 

Councilmembers will hear public testimony during their monthly public comment period. Speakers will have two minutes to address Councilmembers on matters relating to county government.

·       An ordinance approving the organization and operations of the Department of Public Defense within the executive branch with a department of Public Defense Advisory board to support the director of the department of public defense and the independence of the legal practice of public defense (Ordinance 2013-0108).

·       Ordinances adding a new section of the King County Charter:

o   Creating a Department of Public Defense and an appointed office with the title of “County Public Defender” appointed by a public defense oversight commission (Ordinance 2013-0210).

o   Creating a Department of Public Defense and an elective office with the title of “County Public Defender” (Ordinance 2013-0211).

o   Creating a Department of Public Defense and an appointed office with the title of “County Public Defender” appointed by the County Executive and subject to confirmation by the County Council (Ordinance 2013-0212).
