The Kiwanis Club of Enumclaw has announced its scholarship winners for 2014 from Enumclaw High School.

The scholarships are based on service to community and school during the students’ entire high school time. Their leadership and commitment, their accomplishments, honors and recognition were all considered. The recipients were also judged on their character, integrity and values. The financial needs of the student were taken into consideration, as well as the student’s attitude, and ability to overcome any handicap.

The $1,000 award is made to the school upon successful enrollment.

Markus Fornelius plans to attend Washington State University, starting in the fall, majoring in engineering.  He has been a tutor at the youth center for four years, helping with academics and as a role model for the youth. He took Advanced Placement classes, as well as being president of the National Honor Society and participating in Spanish Club. He lettered in track and was the team captain this past year and holds a school record in the javelin. His grade-point average is a 3.92.

Abigail Callison plans to attend Washington State University, starting in the fall, majoring in financial planning. She has participated in the drug and alcohol prevention team and helped promote the awareness of the consequences of using drugs. She participated in cross country and was a first-team all-league selection during her senior year, and a second-team pick the year before. In 2011 she was in the Top 50 Nike pre-Nationals.  She helped with Dave Reichert’s Youth Advisory board and was a member of the National Honor Society. She has taken Advanced Placement classes and had a 3.66 cumulative GPA.
