Laurie Dent, principal of Liberty Ridge Elementary Principal, was selected as an Elementary Schools Principals Association of Washington (ESPAW) Regional Distinguished Principal for 2012. Her nomination will be forwarded to the state level for consideration for recognition as Washington state’s Distinguished Principal at the elementary level.
A principal must demonstrate evidence of outstanding contributions to the community and to the education profession, and should lead a school that:
• is clearly committed to excellence;
• has programs designed to meet the academic and social needs of all students; and
• has firm ties to parents and community.
Her peers in the East Pierce Region nominated Ms. Dent. Currently in her third year as principal at Liberty Ridge Elementary, Dent previously served as a co-principal at Mountain View Middle School.
Each year, each of the 18 regions of ESPAW select a principal for consideration as our state’s Distinguished Principal. From those nominations, one elementary principal is selected to represent the State at the National Association of Elementary School Principals event in Washington, DC.
All regional nominees will be recognized at the ESPAW annual luncheon held in conjunction with the Association of Washington School Principals’ Conference. The luncheon recognizing this year’s nominees will take place in the fall of 2013.
The National Distinguished Principals Program is jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
