Black Diamond will soon have a new library a mile from where the current library sits at 24301 Roberts Dr.

The new facility is coming just in time, as a building boom appears on the horizon for the small town. Development plans show perhaps as many as 4,500 new homes coming to the area during the next few years.

The library will feature one floor, providing more than twice the square footage as the current facility. The building, a project of the King County Library System, is planned for 5,000 square feet. On tap for the new facility are more materials and computers, along with space just for children and teens. Also planned is a community meeting room.

The library carries an estimated price tag of more than $5 million and completion is expected in mid-2008.

The existing library will remain open while the new facility is being built.

Questions regarding the new library should be directed to King County Libraries' Community Relations Manager Julie Brand-Wallace at 425-369-3273.
