School is out, summer is here and kids are out loitering, according to some business owners in the area.

Shandor Collins, owner of Gamebreakerz at 20611 state Route 410 near Regal Cinemas, spoke to the Bonney Lake City Council June 24 concerning problems with some teens and adults.

Collins said there are occasional problems with adults buying alcohol and cigarettes for teens.

He told the council most kids are respectful, but a few are creating serious problems and, “The merchants don't know what to do.”

Collins said it is important for his business that parents believe it is a safe place for youths.

Police Chief Mike Mitchell said the police department is working with business and property owners.

“If someone is causing problems we will trespass them from the property,” Mitchell said. “If they go back they can be arrested.”

Mitchell said a person could be trespassed for up to one year.

The chief also said business and property owners can refuse to provide service.

Mitchell said some of the problem juveniles and adults are known to police. He also cautioned parents about leaving their teens at shopping centers and theaters for long periods of time unsupervised.

One of the problems with businesses like Gamebreakerz and the cinema is the close proximity to the Washington State University Demonstration Forest.

Teens will leave the theater and shopping center and go into the forest, which is closed.

Mitchell said Officer Terry Carter has been patrolling the forest and the forest behind Allan Yorke Park on bicycle and on foot to stop some of the problems.
