Bonney Lake is about to get another home improvement store.
Lowe's has submitted a site plan to the Planning Department for a store located across from Albertson's on South Prairie Road East.
Home Depot, a competitor of Lowe's, opened earlier this year on 214th Street East.
The plan calls for a building of 138,684 square feet with future expansion area of 14,747 square feet and a 31,709 square foot garden center. The parking area plan calls for 523 parking stalls.
The site covers 17.34 acres and includes removing 10 homes.
The traffic design includes a roundabout on 200th Court East and 100th Street Court East.
Public Works Director Dan Grigsby said “we will look at the traffic plan to see if it will support the loading.”
Grigsby said Lowe's has already paid $5,000 for a consultant's study of the traffic design, which will be completed by Sumner consulting firm Parametrix.
“Mainly we don't want to build something that will be out of date in 10 years,” Grigsby said.
Christy McQuillen, Planning Department assistant, said Lowe's was being very cooperative and that once the site plan is approved the complete application will be posted on the city's Web site.
McQuillen said the city's policy now is once applications for plats and commercial developments are submitted the information will be provided to the public as soon as possible. Citizens can access the information at the department, 8740 184th Ave. E., or on the Web.
