In an effort to keep March Madness on the basketball court and off our highways, we want to give you advanced notice about some major closures next weekend.
That’s when we’ll be shutting down portions of SR 99 in Seattle and detouring westbound I-90 onto the express lanes. You can read all about the packed weekend of closures that start Friday night, March 27, and go until Monday morning, March 30, in our news release. Here’s a quick recap:
- Both directions of SR 99 between Western Avenue and Valley Street will be closed around the clock from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for utility and construction work.
- The Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday to allow our bridge inspection teams to conduct a semiannual inspection of the aging structure.
- Westbound I-90 will be detoured onto the express lanes near East Mercer Way from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. WSDOT and Sound Transit contractor crews will be working on the final stage of the I-90 Two-Way Transit Project.
