Man wanted on warrants ignores officer orders, continues to ride bike | SUMNER POLICE BLOTTER

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: At 12:27 a.m. Feb. 13, officers were dispatched to a possible domestic violence in progress at the 5800 block of March Lane. The reporting person told dispatch that she could hear screaming, slamming noises, and other sounds of violence. A woman contacted by officers on arrival told them that the suspect inside was intoxicated and violent. She also said her friend was injured.

Police entered the home, where the suspect attempted to punch an officer. He was warned verbally to stop; when he did not, officers proceeded with physical restraint. The man continued to resist arrest by hitting and kicking officers. A stun gun was deployed twice with no effect. The man spit blood in an officer’s face. He was eventually detained and booked into Pierce County Jail for malicious mischief and assault in the second and fourth degrees.

WARRANT/TRESPASS: At 1:24 p.m. Feb. 21, an officer observed a man riding along Washington Street on a bike. The man was known by police to be wanted for multiple offenses that include a felony charge.

The officer shouted at the subject to stop; he rode on. The officer entered his vehicle and followed the subject with lights flashing; he rode on. The officer used the PA system to order the man to stop; he rode on. The man rode on—and was pursued—to an apartment complex on a dead end road. He dismounted his bike and climbed a fence into a citizen’s back yard before finally complying to the officer’s demands. He was taken into Pierce County Jail on the original charges, as well as additional charges of resisting arrest, obstructing a public servant, and criminal trespass.

VEHICLE THEFT: At 9:38 p.m. March 7, a man contacted officers to report that his car had been stolen from the 1200 block of Valley Avenue. The man told a responding officer that he had set down his keys at the check stand of a store and forgotten them as he walked out to his vehicle. When he came back, they were missing. He asked the person who had been behind him in line if he knew where his keys were, but he denied knowing what had happened to them. When the victim went out to his car again, it was missing.

Ninety minutes later, the vehicle was located by law enforcement in the SeaTac/Tukwila area. The vehicle was empty but a man nearby was questioned and detained for suspected involvement in the theft. That man was later determined to be a missing person reported by his mother, and the same subject in both cases.
