Mandatory recount for legislative district 47 position 1 set for Tuesday

With just 57 votes, or 0.29 percent, separating Republican Mark Hargrove and Democrat Bud Sizemore, the tight race has triggered a mandatory hand recount of all ballots in the race for state representative position 1.

While the results may have been certified this week, the election is not quite over for residents of the 47th legislative district, which includes Black Diamond.

With just 57 votes, or 0.29 percent, separating Republican Mark Hargrove and Democrat Bud Sizemore, the tight race has triggered a mandatory hand recount of all ballots in the race for state representative position 1.

According to state law, statewide offices or measures must be recounted by hand when the difference between two candidates or choices is less than 1,000 votes and less than .75 percent of the vote.

King County Elections has rescheduled the recount of the 47th Legislative District Position 1 race to Dec. 4. Rescheduling allows for a tabulation system inspection by Dominion, the equipment vendor, in preparation for the recount.

The recount may be viewed by visitors without appointment via the public viewing loop on the second floor of Elections headquarters at 919 SW Grady Way, Renton.

The Elections webcams will remain on until the recount has been completed and certified.
