Mayor Liz Reynolds, during Monday night’s meeting of the Enumclaw City Council, offered the following proclamation regarding Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Attending on behalf of the awareness group Linking Civility-Compassion-Kindness were Marshall Gutierrez, Nancy Merrill, Jennifer Batts, René Popke and Trip Hart.
The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, Domestic Violence is a leading cause of death for women in theUnited States with 1,200 being murdered by an intimate partner every year, which ismore than car crashes, muggings and rape combined; and
WHEREAS, approximately 23,000 children witness Domestic Violence inKing County every year; and
WHEREAS, everyone deserves to be safe and Domestic Violence has noplace in our community; and
WHEREAS, families and communities are strengthened by understandingwhat is Domestic Violence and by holding Domestic Violence perpetratorsaccountable; and
WHEREAS, October is nationally recognized as Domestic ViolenceAwareness Month and increasing public awareness will promote safety, health andwellness for our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Liz Reynolds, Mayor of the City of Enumclaw,Washington, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2012
