Meet local authors at Pierce County Library’s DIYfest | Pierce County Library System

As if hands-on activities, kitchen demos, food trucks and exhibitors of everything do-it-yourself were not enough, attendees of Pierce County Library’s DIYfest also will meet local authors. DIYfest is a free event that takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Fruitland Grange in Puyallup.

Dee Williams – The Big TinyTiny house pioneer Dee Williams lives in an 84-square-foot house in Olympia, Wash. Her experience building the house taught her that her life really was in her own hands. She now helps others find confidence to build the life they dream about. “The Big Tiny” has been featured in many publications including The New York Times.

Blair Stocker – Wise CraftCraft book author Blair Stocker describes herself as a quilt maker and designer, painter, DIY daredevil, thrift store junkie, teacher and public speaker. The pages of “Wise Craft” contain 60 projects. She shares her passion for reusing and repurposing materials to tell her family’s story and decorate her Seattle home.

Jennie Grant – City GoatsWith “City Goats,” Jennie Grant provides a humorous and helpful guide to small-scale goat keeping. She founded the Goat Justice League, a citizen action group that helped legalize goats in her home town of Seattle and now provides tips on raising urban goats and legalizing them nationwide.

Lisa Taylor – Your Farm in the CityLisa Taylor of Shoreline, Wash. and the Gardeners of Seattle Tilth bring locavores “Your Farm in the City,” the all-in-one compendium of everything people need to know to start growing their own food and raising city-friendly livestock. The book is written for city and suburban dwellers who may have little experience and/or space for a garden or animals.

Books will be available for purchase and signing. Board the library’s DIY bookmobile to browse and check out all manner of DIY books. See the suggested DIY reading list.
