A memorial service and reception have been planned for Enumclaw youngsters Jared and Jordan Davis who were killed in a Saturday night automobile accident.
The service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Enumclaw. A reception will follow in the Enumclaw High School commons. The reception is a joint effort of the Kibler Elementary School PTA, school staff and families, and Wolverines Junior Football.
The brothers – Jared, 8, and Jordan, 11 – died after leaving a Monster Truck Show at the Tacoma Dome, according to Mark Fulghum, a spokesman for the Tacoma Police Department. He said the boys’ mother, a Bonney Lake resident, was driving on Bay Avenue near the Emerald Queen Casino when her car went into oncoming traffic after crossing over a concrete lane divider. The vehicle was reportedly hit on the passenger side by a sport utility vehicle.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m.
Fulgham said, as of Tuesday afternoon, the cause of the accident is still being investigated.
He confirmed the mother, 41, was arrested but has not been charged. That step in the process belongs to the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office.
Both boys attended Kibler Elementary School, Jared in the third grade and Jordan in the fifth.
Kibler teachers gathered before school Tuesday – Monday was a holiday – to discuss how the situation would be handled with students. Superintendent Mike Nelson said all teachers in third through fifth grades addressed the deaths and allowed students to share stories of the brothers. Some classes began making cards.
Nelson said the district reached out to the family as soon as hearing the news Sunday. A school counselor was available to meet with students.
