The Black Diamond Historical Society sponsoring the design and construction of a statue and memorial garden dedicated to coal miners from around the state.

The Black Diamond Historical Society sponsoring the design and construction of a statue and memorial garden dedicated to coal miners from around the state.

The memorial includes a 28-foot granite wall engraved with the names of  miners who died in Washington state coal mines and a bronze statue of a coal miner in honor of all those who worked in the mines. The statue was sculpted by artist Paul Crites.

Former Black Diamond Mayor Gomer Evans was the guiding force who brought the memorial to the town, along with Keith Watson, president of the Black Diamond Historical Society. Both spoke during the ceremony along with Mayor Rebecca Olness
