Enumclaw’s annual Stars and Stripes celebration will start with a free breakfast and conclude with a fireworks show.

Monday’s festivities get rolling with a free community breakfast served between 8 and 10 a.m. at the senior center, 1350 Cole St.

Kids are invited to the parking lot at Cole and Initial Avenue from 10 to 11:30 to spruce up their bicycles – the decorations will be provided at no charge – prior to the start of the annual Stars and Stripes parade. In keeping with tradition, kids on their decorated bikes will lead the way when the parade begins at noon.

The Chamber of Commerce will take entries for the 11th annual Fourth of July parade until Monday morning. Those who signed up early received a price break, but the fee has now been bumped to $25.

The final Stars and Stripes event is a fireworks display at the Enumclaw Expo Center. The show is tentatively slated to begin at 9:45 p.m.

Monday’s events kick off a busy July for the area. Soon to follow are the four-day King County Fair at the Expo Center, July 7-10; the Black Diamond Miners’ Day celebration on July 9; the 36th annual Wilkeson Handcar Races and associated events on July 16; Creation Fest, which will draw thousands of people to the Expo Center July 20-23; the Enumclaw Street Fair July 22-23, complete with merchants, vendors, a carnival and other entertainment; and the July 29-31 Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games, also at the Expo Center.

Local VFW will honor deceased vets

The state of Washington and the Washington Army National Guard has requested the Enumclaw Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1949 perform Military Honors for 102 deceased veterans who were interred without receiving such honors.

The service is scheduled for 9 a.m. the Fourth of July at Enumclaw’s Veterans Memorial Park, near the intersection of state Route 410 and Monroe Avenue.
