The Enumclaw School Board will take its first brush at narrowing down nearly $196 million in outlined facility needs throughout the school district Monday night.

The public study session begins at 7 in the district board room.

“It might seem like sticker shock,” said Gerald Reifert of Mahlum Architects of Seattle, at the board's regular meeting Dec. 17. Reifert, who has been working with Superintendent Mike Nelson and Director of Business and Operations Tim Madden on a facilities study and survey, walked the board through an abbreviated list of districtwide facility needs and cost estimates.

Reifert's overview included building systems, health and life-safety issues, interior finishes, exterior finishes and program needs.

He told the board the survey is a list; members can choose to do all of the items or none.

Monday's meeting is offered as a chance to begin a conversation in that direction.

The board is planning to put a bond before voters in 2008. How much they will seek and what the money would cover is still to be determined. Monday's meeting is a step closer to setting priorities.
