The heavy rains proved too much for one hillside in Sumner and a mudslide occurred at 5 a.m. Thursday between 52nd Street East and 42nd Street East.

A crew worked on West Valley Highway Thursday into the afternoon hauling dump trucks full of mud and debris. The mud from the hill crossed over the street from one side to the other. During the cleanup process water ran down the exposed section Bulldozers and backhoes were used in the cleanup effort and a worker at the scene estimated the road would be open in time for the evening commute.
