The city of Bonney Lake hosted National Night Out August 6 at Allan Yorke Park. The evening began with a caravan of police vehicles parading into the park and concluded with a family-friendly showing of “Escape from Planet Earth” around dusk.
Children and adults alike enjoyed mingling with city leaders and police officers during the event. Activities included face painting by Bonney Lake High School Cheerleaders, crafts sponsored by Home Depot, balloon animals by the Clown Buggy clowns and more!
An Airlift NW helicopter landed at approximately 6:30 p.m. to the delight of onlookers. The East Pierce firetruck was called out but other vehicles were present for the “touch a truck” portion of the festivities; a SWAT vehicle, various patrol cars and the police department’s motor unit were open for exploring.
National Night Out is a nationwide campaign designed to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community, as well as promote crime and drug prevention. Bonney Lake began participating back in 2000 but the campaign has been around for 30 years.
